The Last Straw
There's a scene that plays out in a thousand traders’ lives, and it never makes the news.
Not the charts. Not the losses. The isolation.
Picture this:
Clocking out of job one, still in uniform.
Phone already buzzing — reminder for job two.
Getting chewed out for a mistake you didn't mean to make, and the explanation that made total sense in your head sounds like an excuse the second it leaves your mouth.
There's an exhaustion that has nothing to do with hours worked.
It's sitting across from people you love and feeling the question behind their smile:
"What have you actually been doing?"
You see right through the smile. The doubt dressed up as a joke.
Everyone has an opinion that makes sense to them but doesn't fit your narrative.
Nobody's cruel about it.
What's worse — you're the only one who can see the shape of what you're building. Which means you're also the only one who knows how far it still has to go.
This is what rarely gets said about trading:
It's not the charts that break people. No!
It's the silent work. The doubts you can't hand off because nobody else is standing where you're standing.
The small wins you alone can celebrate, because no one saw the fight it took.
It's the fear that shows up at 1 am and doesn't care that you have a 6 am shift.
It's building toward a future you can't prove yet, while everyone else looks like they're already living the dream.
And here's the part almost nobody admits:
When a trader who's made it talks about his lessons, it comes out sounding inspirational. Smooth.
But he knows — deep within — the story isn't finished.
So he keeps the polish outside and the pressure inside. And keeps going anyway.
This is the actual engineering work of building a life from zero.
Not the montage.
The part in between — forcing yourself to analyse charts after a 10+ hour shift that wrecked you, knowing you’ve got another one, while everyone else clocks out to rest in their various homes.
Juggling trading, two jobs, bills, and just staying alive was never a life anyone signs up for.
It's a life you adapt to — because quitting was never actually on the table.
You’ll break down more times than you'll ever post about.
And every time, you’ll have to reassemble yourself and get back to building the one thing only you can see.
No one has it easy. But every trader who's made it worked their ass off to get there.
So don't tell yourself "mine will be different." Or, “God dey for me”, lol.
You have to be willing to commit to the work. If you're not locked in on that mindset — trading isn't for you. And that's okay.
So if this hit something in you —
The double shift. The 2 am chart check after a 10-hour day. The family that doesn't get it. The doubt during unfavorable conditions even when your system is data-proven.
Understand: this part of your journey doesn't get applause. But it's what forges you.
Every trader who's ever made it through to the other side did their time right here, in this exact unglamorous stretch, before anyone else could see what they saw.
Hear this:-
You're not behind!
You're in the part of the story that has to happen before the ending it deserves.
